The Stonehouse, Ice Cream Social and Charcoal Ice Cream

Image
Just today I had the opportunity to discover three new things at the same time, all of which turned out to be very good (and yummy). First, I saw on The Stranger that Laina's Handcrafted Ice Cream (a tiny ice cream company from Seattle) was going to do an Ice Cream Social today, where people would have the chance to try brand new flavors and buy the traditional ones with a discount. I had never been to their Ice Cream Socials before, so this sounded like a great idea. I got to the location for the Social and it was at The Stonehouse, a small café and bar right by Lake Washington that I had not been before. It's a lovely place and in a sunny day like today it offers plenty of outdoor seating with great views of the lake, and I'm looking forward to come here again for their regular fare. For the Social, you could choose some traditional flavors (vanilla, chocolate, mint), some not so traditional (cookies and cream made with real Oreo cookies, toasted coconut, pumpkin pie) and

UW Protests and My (Unexpected) Bar-Mitzvah

Important note:  this is not  political. Of course I have my own political opinions, but I prefer to keep them to myself, and as such I'm not commenting on any political implications on what I tell below. I prefer to just describe things to people and let everybody make their own opinion. At a minimum I think we can all agree that this has been a historical situation and I would like to register that I witnessed part of this historical moment with my own eyes. So, as you may be aware, there has been a number of protests regarding the current conflict in Israel and Gaza. A big part of that has been the various encampments of protesters in university campi around the country, and a few days ago one such camp was put together at the Seattle campus of the University of Washington (UW). As I said, one thing we can agree on is that this is a historical moment, which I wanted to see it with my own eyes, and today I had the opportunity to do so. It helped that the day turned out to be a go

New Experience: the Sushi Burrito

Image
There is a new restaurant at the University Ave (the main thoroughfare of the University District in Seattle) named "IJ Sushi Burrito" . As the name says, it sells this new dish, a fusion of a sushi with a burrito, in addition to poké bowls. I was really curious about it, so I gave it a try today! ...And it wasn't that great. Look, I love burritos and I love sushi, but turns out that I don't love their combination. Actually, it's not exactly a combination: it's basically one huge sushi wrapped in seaweed with the same stuff that goes into a regular sushi, the only difference is that instead of being a dozen little sushis it is one humongous sushi. The similarity with a burrito is just because of the size and shape. At least to me it didn't work well: what I like the most in sushi is the meat, and my dish had lots of seaweed and rice but just a bit of meat in the middle. Anyways, maybe one of you will like it more.
